Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Mr. Shi Ting Wang, has urged the West not to unduly interfere with his country’s economic cooperation with Ghana.
China, touted as the emerging economic superpower has been accused of employing cheap financial strategies in a bid to colonize Africa economically. The Asian country has deepened economic ties with several Africa countries in recent times.
According to reports, China surpassed the US in 2009 to became the largest trading partner of Africa. Bilateral trade agreements have been signed between China and 40 countries of the continent. In 2000, China Africa Trade amounted to $10 billion and by 2014, it had grown to $220 billion.
However, China’s increasing presence on the Continent has been condemned by the country’s development partners as well as some Civil Society groups, who believe China is employing smart ‘tactics’ to control economies of Africa
But speaking to Atinka TV on the sidelines of China’s 69th National Day Celebration Reception in Ghana Thursday, Shi Ting Wang, rejected the claim, adding that his country is only interested in assisting Ghana to develop and warned the West not to stand in their way.
